Robert W. Limbert leans on a spatter cone. Limbert's caption: "A spatter cone on trench mortar flat: Many of these blowholes, or fumaroles, have perpendicular throats from four to twenty inches wide, and are twisted or rifled like gun barrels. Most of the hundred or more cones on this flat have been plugged with small stones, probably by Indians."
