This first online digital collection from the Boise State University Library features 23 titles from the university’s Western Writers Series. Published at Boise State University since 1972, the 172 volumes in the Western Writers Series provide brief, authoritative introductions to writers and classic texts of the American West. The purpose of the 50-60 page booklets is to deepen the understanding and appreciation for the literature of the American West. The Western Writers Series booklets are written by scholars and intended for lay readers and fellow scholars alike.
The impetus behind digitizing these titles was to make the 23
out-of-print booklets in the series fully accessible and to showcase one of Boise State University's unique publications. All of the booklets are full-text searchable. Libraries that are interested in adding these titles and links to their public catalogs can find all of the OCLC numbers here. The full Western Writers Series catalog can be viewed here.
This collection was made available online through the collaboration of the English Department, series editors Tara Penry and Tom Hillard, librarians Rick Stoddart, Erin Passehl, Barbara Glackin, and Alan Virta. Web design by Elizabeth Allen.
